Since the early days of the Victorian naturalists who discovered the ecological treasures of the Iberian Peninsular, the region has attracted innumerable visitors. Despite this, there have remarkably few books on birds and bird watching.
In this stunning volume, printed on heavy glossy stock throughout, the authors guide us to the main habitats of the species of birds which are found in the region as well as the more important ornithological sites.
This book includes examinations of 150 bird species and the main areas in which they can be found. The descriptions provide the status of each species in Iberia as well as placing them in their global context. The Iberian Peninsula forms a distinct geographical environment, not only for the unique species found there, but also as the crossroads of the twice-annual journey between Europe and Africa made by most migratory birds. This is a major reference work for any bird watcher who plans a trip to the site or for the armchair traveler and the general reader.
With more than 150 full-color photographs and seventeen black-and-white sketches, Birds of Iberia is a treasure to have and to hold.

About the Book
The dramatic sierras around Ronda is a region that in recent years has become popular with people recoiling from the over-development of the Costa del Sol, but which still, if you know where to look, retains the basic elements of that elusive Arcadia so many of us seek. The author first traveled there in the late ’50s and made a series of journeys by horse into the surrounding Andalusian countryside, which he described in his book The Road from Ronda. He returned to Ronda in the late ’90s to see if the Arcadia he had discovered all those years ago still existed. This book describes what he found.
About the Author
Alistair Boyd was an active member of the British House of Lords from 1976 to 1997. The journeys on which the present book is based were carried out between 1989 and 1991 during parliamentary recesses. In 1998, he returned permanently to Spain and now lives with his wife, Hilly, on a small farm outside Ronda.
